| The Scholars Seminar opened
with Don Kates. Criminology |

Don is a criminologist, civil liberties
lawyer, and author. His law degree is from Yale, and
he taught at Saint Louis University School of
Law. He worked in the civil rights movement with,
among others, William Kunstler. In 1983, Don got an
article published in MICHIGAN LAW REVIEW: Handgun Prohibition and the Original
Meaning of the Second Amendment. With that law
review article, Don got the 2nd Amendment into the
big time and opened the gate for other 2nd
Amendment academics. He is the author of ARMED:
NEW PERSPECTIVES ON GUN CONTROL (2001); THE GREAT AMERICAN
GUN DEBATE (1997); FIREARMS AND VIOLENCE: ISSUES
OF PUBLIC POLICY
(1984), and RESTRICTING HANDGUNS: THE LIBERAL SKEPTICS SPEAK OUT
(1979). Don's topic was Criminology. |
