HUFFORD
genealogy for researchers
The information here is intended
for heavy-duty genealogical researchers. The format,
therefore, is downright boring, but there is massive
information for the genealogical researcher.
There's a SEARCH function,
and there's access to a searchable
gedcom database,
and there's a blog
where I share interesting HUFFORD research finds.
Listed below are resources for
genealogists working the descendants and ancestors of
Hans Jorich HOFFART (b. 1674) and his wife, Anna
Margaretha MOST (b. 1675).
The couple arrived in Philadelphia in
September 1729, accompanied by their 13-year-old son
Christian and their nine-year-old daughter Anna
Margaretha. Their daughter Anna Christina (b. 1706)
arrived soon after with her husband, Johann Casper
CREAGER, and their newborn son (Philip Casper Creager).
Their son Christian married twice, had
seventeen children, and died in 1788 in Frederick County,
Maryland, USA.
Their daughter Anna Christina married
once and had ten children.
Their daughter Anna Margaretha married
Hans Adam MULLER, but her children are not known.
The name is spelled several ways,
including at least the following ways: Hoffarth, Hoffart,
Hoffert, Hofford, Huffard, Hufferd, Huffert, Hufford,
Huffort.
NOTE: I have begun a
blog: Hufford Genealogy. I'll be using it for interesting finds as I
find and sort Hufford descendants. Don't expect
interesting reading at the Hufford Genealogy blog, but
it's a convenient way for me to add newly found tidbits.

clearly. The audio/video clip is from Christian's

PART III:
INFO FOR ANNA
CHRISTINA's DESCENDANTS
PART IV:
PAXSON LINK's BOOK
Of interest to researchers working some
of the descendants of Christian (b. 1716) and to
researchers working some of the descendants of his sister
Anna Christina (b. 1706) will be Paxson Link's "The
Link Family: Antecedents and Descendants of John Jacob
Link, 1417-1951," published in 1951. It traces
the descendants of John Jacob Link who was born in 1682
in Grossgartach, Germany. These HUFFORD descendants are
also LINK descendants:
- All descendants of Catherine
CREAGER (b. 1799) and her husband Daniel LINK (b.
1772). ... Catherine was the daughter of
Christina HOFFART (b. 1749), who was the daughter
of Christian HOFFART (b. 1716).
- All descendants of Peter BEARD (b.
abt 1781) and his wife Katherine LINK (b. 1792).
... Peter was the son of Anna Margareth HOFFART
(b. 1754), who was the daughter of Christian
HOFFART (b. 1716).
- All descendants of Elizabeth
CREAGER (b. 1768) and her husband John Jacob LINK
(b. 1760). ... Elizabeth was a granddaughter of
Johann Casper CREAGER and Anna Christina
HOFFART/HUFFORD. There is disagreement about
whether Elizabeth was the daughter of George
Valentine or the daughter of Conrad. Regardless
of which brother was her father, Elizabeth was a
HUFFORD descendant.
John Jacob Link was the
4-greats-grandfather of President Dwight Eisenhower.
Thus, anyone who descends from John Jacob Link b. 1642
would be a cousin at some level to President Eisenhower.
PART V:
SITES BY OTHER
HUFFORD DESCENDANTS
- Jim Hufferd's
genealogy site
Jim descends from Christian's son Daniel.
- Conni Riley's
research at ancestry.com
Conni descends from Christian's son George.
- Shena Taylor's
work at familytreemaker
NOTE: The most respected of the
Hufford family genealogists, Barry Wood, states
that Shena's information is incorrect regarding
the maiden name of the 2nd wife of Christian
Hufford b. 1716. The woman's name is not known. Many have guessed, and those
guesses have been proven wrong. To date (as of
2010), the maiden name of Christian's 2nd wife is
unknown.
PART VI:
CREDITS and
APPRECIATION
Debt is owed to many HUFFORD family
genealogists for the information here. Included on the
list would be the following:
- Abraham
Hufford
(1836-1920):
Abraham found addresses of most of the living
Hufford descendants in preparation for the first
Hufford family reunion, held September 22, 1898,
in Rossville, Indiana. That contact information
was used as the basis of the 1909 HUFFORD
FAMILY HISTORY. Descendant of Christian's
son Casper; Abraham is at page 142 of the book.
- Franklin
Pierce Hoffert
(1858-1931):
Franklin authored the 1909 HUFFORD FAMILY
HISTORY. Descendant of Christian's son Casper;
Franklin is at page 52 of the book.
- Barry Wood, Attorney
(b. 1948):
Barry figured out (in about 1970) that the
Christian Hufford whose will was proved in
Frederick County, Maryland, on October 8, 1788,
was the same person who was born January 5, 1716,
in Schwaigern, Germany. Barry has sorted out
thousands of Hufford descendants using primary
sources. Descendant of Christian's son Christian
II.
- Shirley
Hufford Hegeman
(1929-2013):
Shirley discovered the identity of the first wife
of Christian Hufford (Elizabeth Keim). Shirley
has sorted out thousands of Hufford descendants.
She has been a legal secretary and a DAR
genealogist. Descendant of Christian's son
Philip.
- Florence
Grove Woods
(1936-1991):
Florence edited "Hufford Family Research and
Records," a quarterly newsletter for Hufford
genealogists that appeared in 1983 and 1984. It
included information from wills, land records,
estate settlements, county marriage records, etc.
Descendant of Christian's son Casper.
- Eunice
Newbold Clark
(1918-2016):
Eunice authored the 1995 book SIX AMERICAN
COLONISTS AND THEIR DESCENDANTS. Descendant
of Christian's son Daniel.
- Donald
Robert Singleton (1918-1995):
Donald sorted out many of the descendants of
Christian's son Daniel. Donald's work was
preserved in a book of typed pages, collected in
a notebook and dated August 3, 1976. Descendant
of Christian's son Daniel.
- Jim
Hufferd
(1935-2018):
Jim drew the Hufford crest based on the crest
found in Schwaigern. Jim spent his life as a
newsman and did excellent, detailed genealogical
research. Descendant of Christian's son Daniel.
- Conni Adams Riley
(b. 1951):
Conni has sorted many hundreds of Hufford
descendants. She is a meticulous researcher.
Descendant of Christian's son George.
