President Obama It is remote, but there is a connection: The connection is on the line of Christian's son Daniel. One of Daniel's descendants (John Harvey HUFFORD, b. January 1899 in Missouri) married Elva Vieta PAYNE, b. 1897 in Johnson Co., Kansas. Elva's brother (Rolla Charles Payne, 1892-1968) is the great-grandfather of President Barack Obama. So, no, President Obama is not a Hufford descendant. But, yes, a few Hufford descendants are related to President Obama. Elva V. Payne and John H. Hufford had one child, Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Hufford, born in 1919 in Missouri. Obviously, Betty was a Hufford descendant and a Payne descendant. She married Mr. Erickson. She and Mr. Erickson had five children. Two are still living, so none of Betty's children will be named here. Betty's children are Hufford descendants, and they also are Payne descendants. Through their Payne ancestors, those Hufford descendants are 2nd cousins to Stanley Ann Dunham, President Obama's late mother. To President Obama, they would be 2nd cousins once-removed.
