When the dog bites,
When the bee stings ...

Nice days to remember

July 31, 2010, in the woods in Maryland

100 years of Camp Fire
The Washington D.C. Area Council of Camp Fire USA
held a traditional council fire to celebrate 100 years of Camp Fire.
I was there with my two favorite Camp Fire kids, my son and my daughter.
My Camp Fire boy made a run for Congress, encouraging economic discussions.
My Camp Fire girl is half-way through grad school for social work.
Woman in background at right is in traditional Camp Fire gown.

Me with "The Fantasy Supreme Court"
These are the men who, over a span of more than 30 years,
built the foundation that restored
the Second Amendment as an individual right.

March 2, 2010, Washington, D.C.

In front of the U.S. Supreme Court building,
after hearing oral arguments in McDonald v. City of Chicago.
All except the lawyer who got the case to the Supreme Court (2nd from right)
had stood in the lawyers' line since before 5 a.m.
Here's my amicus brief arguing for incorporation.

October 11, 2008, Mishawaka

Floating on the St. Joseph River
Fifty-two years earlier, we had sat side-by-side
in a first-grade class at North Side Elementary School.
He could draw horses, and his mom baked wonderful cookies!
Now he has a doctorate and is an educational administrator.
We were together for a "play day" 40 years after high school.

December 24, 2007, Bethesda

Midnight Mass at de Chantal,
followed by emergency surgery one week later.

May 21, 2005, Fairfax

That's a doctoral gown, hood, and tam.

With Nelson Lund, after GMUSL's 2005 Convocation.
"You are hereby forbidden from ever again calling me 'Professor Lund'!"

May 19, 2001, Kansas City

My "little fish."
She swam forth from my body
and grew up before I realized.

October 18, 2000, Las Vegas

Between two Mr. Butterworths:
the son, William E. Butterworth IV, editor of Boys' Life;
the father, William E. Butterworth III, a.k.a. "W.E.B. Griffin."

May 21, 2000, Charlotte

Mr. Charleton Heston,
at breakfast.

April 20, 2000, U.S. Supreme Court

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas

June 1999, Bethesda

It was my "skinny year."
I was able to wear my 15-year-old daughter's jeans!
But the wrinkles on my face had me looking like a Shar Pei.

May Day 1999, Denver

Lt. Col. Oliver North

June 15, 1967, Mishawaka

Internet magic: Photo arrived in 2007.
It was a going-away party for a Chilean boy;
he had been in Mishawaka as an exchange student.
I was 16 and had just completed my junior-year of high school.
The barefoot boy behind me became an attorney.
Two of the other three boys in the picture became engineers.
The exchange student now has two Ph.D.s and is an engineer in Norway.
He was my date for the Junior Prom.
