In Heller, Dr. Halbrook wrote the amicus brief for
55 Members of the U.S. Senate, the President of the U.S. Senate, and 250 Members of the U.S. House of Representatives.
In Heller, Mr. Poss wrote the amicus brief for the NRA and the NRA Civil Rights Defense Fund.
In McDonald, Poss and Halbrook joined forces to write the brief for the NRA as a party in the case.
Mr. Poss is a Senior Partner with Goodwin Procter; all of his work on Heller and on McDonald was done pro bono.

because of a minor leg injury that he had experienced during a recent hunting trip.

Sandra Froman presented the NRA Civil Rights Defense Fund's
2011 Carter-Knight Freedom Award to Don B. Kates, Jr.

Don B. Kates, Jr., accepting the plaque and award check from Sandra Froman.
Don Kates is a criminologist, civil liberties lawyer, and author.
His law degree is from Yale, and he taught at Saint Louis University School of Law.
In 1983, Don Kates broke into the "big time" for the 2nd Amendment academics
when he got an article published in Michigan Law Review:
"Handgun Prohibition and the Original Meaning of the Second Amendment."
With that law review, the gate opened for other pro-Second Amendment articles
to be published in major law reviews.
