November 16, 2021; class #9 (Tuesday after 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time; Mark 13:24-32)
Textbook lesson #20, p. 177: Why is the Lord’s Prayer called the perfect prayer?

Let’s begin with the Sign of the Cross:
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Come, Holy Spirit, and fill the hearts of your faithful. Light the fire of your love in them. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created, and you will renew the face of the earth. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns forever and ever. Amen.

Remember what color chasuble the priest was wearing at Mass this weekend?
[Give sheet explaining colors of priest’s chasuble.]

Remember that every Sunday at Mass, there are three readings from the Bible. The third reading is always from one of the four gospels in the Bible — Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Those four men wrote about what Jesus said and what Jesus did. We’ll read the story at the top of each page here.
[Give copies of
children's bulletin, and have children read aloud.]
. . . . . Jesus was talking to His disciples.
. . . . . Someday God’s Son will come to earth again.
. . . . . When Jesus returns, He will send His angels to gather faithful people.
. . . . . Only God knows the time Jesus will come.

This week we’ll do lesson # 20 in your book. It starts on page 177. It’s about the Lord’s Prayer, which we also call “the Our Father.”
There are two new words for you: hallowed and Kingdom of God. We’ll get to them while we’re reading.

Now, we’re at page 177. What do the words at the very top of the page say?
[Read from textbook. Ask questions as appropriate.]

We’ll have snack as we watch a Brother Francis video. Brother Francis also talks about the Lord’s Prayer.
First, we’ll say our prayer before our snack:
Bless us, O Lord, and these gifts that we are about to receive from Thy bounty, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Brother Francis video #10: What is the Lord’s Prayer?

Saint Pope John Paul, singing the Our Father in Latin, in 1982:

Explain that Mass used to be said in Latin, in all countries around the world.

Our Father word practice: Have children write the words, line by line.

Coloring sheet
Guardian Angel coloring sheet. Coloring sheet is based on new stained glass window at church, in the children's room (the "cry room").

Closing prayers: Time to say good bye. :-)
We'll begin with the Our Father. You know many of the words. You can follow along as we all say them:

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Saint Michael the Archangel, please defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke the devil, we humbly pray.
And do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the Power of God,
cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits,
who prowl through the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
